History of KTEC
2007
The first KTEC school opened in Kenosha, WI, with the mission to prepare students for success through academic excellence, 21st-century skill-building, strategic partnerships, and technology integration. Under a charter agreement with the Kenosha Unified School District (KUSD), KTEC’s founding elementary school enrolled 325 students.
2014
KTEC’s original 4K-8 school expanded from one campus to two. KTEC began building partnerships with Snap-On, the National Coalition of Certification Centers (NC3), and Gateway Technical College. These partnerships included the creation of an Innovation Lab at KTEC’s West campus, and a K-8 tool curriculum that has been purchased by other education institutions.
2022
Responding to demands from the KTEC community and Wisconsin industry leaders, KTEC High School opened in 2022. The vision was to create a seamless pathway for students and families all the way from 4K through 12th grade. Operated independently from KTEC’s founding school, with a separate board of directors, KTEC High School is chartered through the University of Wisconsin’s Office of Educational Opportunity (OEO).
2025
In January 2025, the Board of Directors of the original KTEC 4K-8 school ended their charter agreement with KUSD. As a result, KTEC ceased operations at the school.
Following this decision, the Board of KTEC High School announced that they had applied to expand KTEC’s charter with the OEO to include grades P4K-12. The new KTEC Schools of Innovation – with an elementary and middle school joining the existing KTEC High School – will open their doors in fall 2025.
Together, KTEC Schools of Innovation are preparing students for success in a global society, from the first day of 4-year-old Kindergarten all the way through high school graduation.
